Diana Marie (Sherwood) DaCosta was born April 7, 1958, to Rupert and Lucille (Arrendelle) Sherwood in New York City, New York. Diana fulfilled her earthly assignment and transitioned on February 12, 2024.
Diana received her education through the New York City Public School System (P.S. 90M, P.S. 122BX, Lefferts Junior High School – I.S. 61, Clara Barton High School, and State University New York at Old Westbury). In her youth, Diana was known for her competitive athleticism. She strived to be the best and had a deep passion of all forms of dance but had an affinity for African dance.
Diana found love with Recorda DaCosta, and they were joined in holy matrimony on August 5, 1984. With endless possibilities in front of them, they relocated to Houston, Texas to begin their new adventures. In 1994, Diana and Recorda relocated to Missouri City, Texas. Diana found her professional niche in administrative support and blossomed at the Whitaker Law Firm. Diana embraced every opportunity to give back to and uplift her community. As an active member of the Jamaican Houston/Missouri City Domino Club, she hosted and supported various fundraising events. Diana, enjoyed life and was a consummate warrior, advocate, and comedian. She was a source of love, light, and laughter for all of those who knew her. She fiercely protected and championed her family and friends and without a doubt, was a proud representative of her Caribbean heritage. Her excellent cooking and amazing sense of fashion were unmatched. She enjoyed singing, dancing, and thrived in the spotlight. She was the star of the show. Diana had a keen ability to see the potential in others and was persistently annoying (in the best way) at encouraging everyone to be the best version of themselves. Diana loved her family and encouraged her children, nieces, and nephews to reach for the stars. She was a child of God, a follower of Christ; she held firm to His promises and called on Him until her time of transition.
Diana is preceded in death by her mother, Lucille (Arrendelle) Sherwood. Her legacy of love and those who will cherish her memory include her father, Rupert Sherwood, Sr.; husband, Recorda “Ricky” DaCosta, Sr.; her sons, Recorda (Ricky) DaCosta, Jr. and Andrew DaCosta; her daughter, Latyra DaCosta; her grandchildren, Nevaeh, Araja, and Andrew (Jr.) DaCosta; her siblings, Patrika, Juanita, Rupert Jr., Raymond, Linda, Janice, and Harold Sherwood; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. We indeed “love you like cook food!” May her memory keep us smiling until we meet again. ONE LOVE!
