Barbara (Burns) Gibson, age 74, of Missouri City, Texas passed away peacefully on Monday October 12, 2020 following complications from hip surgery. Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Gary “Mike” Gibson, daughter of the late Robert L. and Augusta Burns, and sister of Becky Mott, Beverly Burns, and the late Robert B. “Bobby” Burns. Barbara will also be remembered by many dear friends including Tom and Debra Kennedy, their daughters Katelyn and Kimberly, along with Veniece Griffin, Walt Haenggi, Mary Ammerman, and many other close friends that lived in The Lakes of Brightwater subdivision.
Barbara married the love of her life, Mike, after a one-week courtship in 1978. Barbara spent much of her working career alongside Mike in the transportation trucking business, owning BarTran Corporation until the late 1990’s. She then redirected her time by volunteering in many non-profit and civic organizations in her community. She was a past director and president of Lakes of Brightwater Home Owners Association. In 2007, she was elected as a member of the city council for Missouri City, Texas and served for a two-year term. Other organizations that Barbara was proud to be a member of were The Women’s Auxiliary of Missouri City Fireman and Police Association and The Spirit of Freedom Republican Club.
Barbara was a voracious reader with a keen mind. She had a passion for working crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Barbara enjoyed collecting antiques and was interested in exploring treasures from years past. She always had an eye for distinctive decorative items and filled her home with vintage collectibles.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, a grave-site service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the police, fireman, or other first responders of your choice.
