and missed by his daughter Cayla (Dalton), granddaughter Astrid, sister Kelly Schroeder (Mike), favorite niece Kayla, aunt Judith, beloved Irish cousins and many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Karen Coggins.
Shaun graduated from Burnsville high school in 1984 and attended Washington University in St. Louis MO, graduating in 1988. After receiving his degree, he was employed in Minnesota by the American Red Cross in the Organ and Procurement Transplant program. Later, he received training as an operating room surgical technician and was employed at various area hospitals including St. Joseph's, Fairview Health Systems and Woodwinds.
Shaun retired in 2018 and enjoyed extended time with friends and family attending sporting events, concerts and traveling, including a memorable trip to New Orleans shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic curtailed US travel.
He was an avid, sometimes opinionated, lifelong Minnesota sports fan. He and his friends enjoyed following NASCAR racing and snowmobiling in northern Minnesota, Michigan and Colorado. One of his great joys was teaching and coaching chess to young learners.
A memorial service for Shaun will be held at Wulff Funeral Home, 1485 White Bear Avenue, St. Paul on Saturday August 12 at 1PM. Burial will take place at St. Columbanus Cemetery, Blooming Prairie MN on Monday August 14 at 11AM. Blooming Prairie was his Dad's home town and Shaun will be laid to rest where many of his Coggins family relatives are buried.
