Madonna Jane Bennett, age 77, of Oakdale, Minnesota, and member of the White Earth Nation, passed away in her home on June 28, 2024 surrounded by family after a hard fought battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Madonna Jane Bennett (Glass) was affectionately known as “Donzie” to many. She was the beloved wife of Ray Bennett Jr. and was mother to Renee, Laurie (Rich), Michelle (Brad), Angela (Clint), Mike (Courtney), Melissa, and Raymond.
She lived a wonderful life filled with love from her 7 children, 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Preceded in death by parents Michael and Jane Glass, brother Paul, and son Raymond James.
She was full of love and support for all and was passionate about everyone she met. Many neighbors and friends were welcomed in the Bennett home and became like family to them. No one was ever turned away. Madonna’s memory will forever be a source of warmth, affection, and tenderness, and will be held close in the hearts of all who loved her. She attended Presentation grade school and was a graduate of Johnson High School (‘65) in St. Paul. Donna became a L. P. N. and soon after married Raymond Clifford Bennett Jr. on September 21, 1968. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage in which they raised 7 children in their Oakdale home.
Donna was very proud of her Irish and Native American heritage. She had a strong faith in God and was heavily involved in her church. She enjoyed her weekly bowling league, selling pull tabs, crocheting blankets, working in her flower garden, and winning at the casino. Madonna was a massive Twins fan and loved watching her grandchildren play sports and would often spoil them with popsicles and ice cream cones.
Wake is Tuesday, July 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wulff Funeral Home in St. Paul, MN. Funeral mass will be Wednesday, July 10 at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Oakdale, MN at 11 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior. Special acknowledgement to Beyond Hospice for the care and support given to Donna and family.
