Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ethel (Smith) Carlson, and a son, Nick Block. He is survived by his two brothers: Earl Carlson and Rick Carlson (Marcy), his children: Matthew Carlson (Sheri), Mitchell Carlson, Marla Carlson (Scott Fritsinger), and Miles Carlson (Becky Kent), grandchildren: Desiree, Jordan, Jacob, Dylan, Colton, Morgan and Kenzie, two great grandchildren: Levi and Lyla, and several nieces and nephews.
Kenny grew up in Effie, MN with his parents and brothers. He graduated from Bigfork High School in 1954 and the University of Minnesota in 1966. Kenny proudly joined the Army in 1957 where he served his country as a paratrooper in the Screaming Eagles, 101st Airborne Division. Kenny married Dianne Streed on April 11th, 1961 in Sioux Falls, SD. The two moved to Vadnais Heights, MN - raising their children together until 1988. Kenny had a love for boxing and was the bantam weight Golden Glove Champion in 1954. Kenny had many successful careers - roofing company owner, contractor, pilot, tax service business owner, insurance salesman, owner of The Badger Lounge, and several years as a boxing coach. An avid outdoorsman and master gardener, Kenny also loved hunting and fishing and passed these loves on to his children. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandkids – hunting, boating, fishing, swimming, playing cards, and telling stories. His story telling and ability to make others laugh will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
A burial service will be held with military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on August 18th, 2017.
