Janet passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 31st, 2022. Born May 20th, 1934, in South Minneapolis, Janet graduated from Hamline University in 1957 with a degree in Elementary Education. She married Carl Johnson in 1957 and lived in North St Paul where they raised three daughters. She taught first grade at Wildwood elementary in Mahtomedi, and later established and taught at North Nursery Center in North Presbyterian Church.
Janet was an active member of North Presbyterian Church since joining the congregation in 1960. She served as an Elder and Clerk of Session, sat on commissions and committees, and sang in the choir for 40 years.
She married Don Schroeder in 1983 and moved to Maplewood. Together they ran a golf tournament for 17 years that raised thousands of dollars for various charities. The golfing, which had up to a hundred participants, was always followed by a gathering at their home with a full meal and refreshments.
Janet is survived by her loving husband Don Schroeder; daughters Rebecca (Mark) Lenz, Sarah (Jill Dawe) Johnson, Anna (Rick) Wegwerth; grandchildren, Alan, Brandon and Calvin Lenz, Henry Johnson Kwant and Ryan and Rachel Vick; great grandchildren Kelsea and Carson Lenz; half-brothers Chuck (Judy) Nichols and Jim Nichols and sisters and brothers in law: Jackie Schroeder, David (Luann) Schroeder, Dennis (Linda) Schroeder and Julie Resendez .
Preceded in death by parents Zalia and Maurice Nichols, sister Mary Ann Honetschlager, grandson Colin Vick, former husband Carl Johnson and parents-in-law Harold and Gertrude Schroeder.
The family is especially grateful for the loving care provided in the last years of Janet’s life by her caregivers Gedamneshe Dorry and Meskerem Yismaw.
Janet loved her family, friends, neighbors, church, home, yard, flowers, music, and the Twins, the Wild, the Packers and Monkey. She enjoyed birdwatching, shopping, gardening, golf, and spontaneous gatherings with her friends and neighbors.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 10 at 11:00 am, visitation beginning at 10:00 am at Wulff Funeral Home, 1485 White Bear Avenue. A Celebration of Life will be held at their home following the service.
