Dr. Joan Haselman Carter. Born April 13th, 1933 in Lima, Ohio. Dr. Carter was a Nursing Professor and Associate Dean of Saint Louis University’s School of Nursing from 1969-2005. Joan received her BSN in nursing from St. Rita’s in Ohio and her Masters in Nursing Administration from St. Louis University. In 1992, Joan took a sabbatical from SLU to pursue her PhD in nursing from the University of Iowa.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Kathryn Gore Haselman, a sister Edna White, her husband, Don Eugene Carter, and her daughter, Ann Marie Carter Mersmann.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Carter Reed, a sister Mary Haselman, a son-law, Ken (Tomea) Mersmann, grandchildren; Joy, Grace, Mark Mersmann and Gabby, Eric, Audrey and Caroline Reed; nieces Jayma Watkins,Joan Burwell and nephews,Tom and Terry White.

A memorial service for Joan will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM at The Abbey Church at Saint Louis Priory, 500 S Mason Rd, St. Louis, MO 63141.
Joan will be lead to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
