Janet Lee Piel, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on December 29, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of William Frederick Gebel and Ann Elizabeth Gebel, who preceded her in death. Janet was a devoted and loving wife to Richard J. Piel, her partner in life and love for 58 wonderful years.
Janet’s greatest joy was her family. She was a proud and loving mother to her two children, Debra Ann Kamp (Piel) and Brian John Piel. Debra and her husband, Douglas R. Kamp, Jr., blessed Janet with three grandchildren: Brianna, Mitchell, and Clayton Kamp. Brian and his wife, Colleen Burns Piel, added three more lights to her life with their children: Charlie, Colin, and Abigail Piel. Her grandchildren brought her immense pride and happiness, filling her life with love and laughter.
Janet held a special bond with her siblings, and she is survived by her sister, Laurie Genazzi (Gebel), and brother, Ken Gebel. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Bill Gebel and Carol O’Dell (Gebel). Janet was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews who will remember her with fondness and love.
Janet worked in various clerical roles and dedicated herself as a homemaker, creating a warm and loving environment for her family. She had a passion for gardening, reading, crafting, solving puzzles, and especially camping with her family and friends. These hobbies brought her joy and reflected her appreciation for simple pleasures and meaningful connections.
She touched the lives of so many with her smile, laughter, kindness, and strength. She will always be remembered by her wisdom, humor and unwavering support. Her family and friends will miss her dearly and treasure the memories for many years to come.
A memorial mass will be held on January 4, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.
