Janet Annette Evans, 41, born August 6, 1981, was a lifelong resident of St. Peters, graduating from Francis Howell Central High School in 2000. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Computer Management Information Systems in 2005 from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville.
The eagerly awaited first daughter of Fredrick and Elizabeth Evans, Janet was honored to receive her name from her maternal grandmother, Janet Annette Wolf and loved to tell people where the name originated.
Even as a little girl, Janet always made room for others. When her Barbie Dream House was invaded by her younger sister’s Ghost Busters dolls, Janet, unlike most big sisters, chose not to throw a fit, but instead found a space for everyone. She carried that attitude through life. Janet never met a stranger, and all forever had a place at her table. An impromptu invitation from Janet often turned into an event that appeared to have taken weeks to plan and execute. She was happiest when sharing whatever she had with others, usually over food and games. To Janet, any windfall was meant to be doled out freely and abundantly.
She was the very definition of loyalty; you were lucky to have Janet Evans on your side. She was often the first to offer help in any situation. Janet never waited for someone else to do the heavy lifting. She jumped right in with both feet. Janet was also surprisingly sentimental, frequently sending texts that started with “remember when…” followed by a piece of ‘90s nostalgia guaranteed to bring a smile to her recipient’s face.
Janet adored her family and was so proud to be part of it. Janet inherited her tenacity and perseverance from her father Fred. Her mother Liz exemplified throughout her life that nothing was more important than family. With Leslie, Janet realized that being part of a sisterhood requires endless patience, compassion, and humor. It was always worth the effort. When nephew Gavin came along in 2007, she was ecstatic to have another member in the Evans clan.
In 2008, Janet received the surprise of a lifetime: the birth of her son, Brayden Robert. Janet frequently referred to Brayden as her “mini-me”. It was love at first sight. They shared the same mischievous grin and carefree spirit. They were two of a kind absolutely and meant for each other. She often said that Brayden was the greatest thing that ever happened to her. Being his mother was the joy of Janet’s life. She was so impressed with the dependable young man Brayden was becoming.
Janet will be profoundly and deeply missed by all she touched.
