Elsa E. Cook, age 91, of Clayton, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Elsa was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and educator. Her parents predeceased her, Walter and Elsa (nee Adler) Ogle. Elsa is survived by her husband, Frank Cook, her daughters; Patricia (Bruce) Grant and Barbara (Bruce) Larson, as well as her grandchildren, Jonathan (Mary Ellen) Grant, Trevor (Lauren) Grant, Meredith Larson, Stephanie (Blake) Michel, Jeffrey (Elise) Larson, and great-grandchildren, Alexander, Charlie, Cooper, Ellie, Nya, Callie, Maximus, and Emilia. She also leaves behind her sister, Marian Glauber-Schobert.
Elsa's life was a testament to her passion for education. For twenty-five years, she shared her love of history as a high school history teacher at McCluer High School, leaving an indelible mark on generations of students. Her dedication to her craft and student support were hallmarks of her teaching career.
Beyond her classroom, Elsa was a talented and accomplished author, having published two novels, "Satin Dolls" and "Last Train to Memphis." Her literary talents allowed her to weave captivating stories that transported readers to different worlds. Elsa was a true scholar, having been recognized as a Fulbright scholar to Italy. Her love for travel extended to worldwide adventures, allowing her to explore diverse cultures and savor culinary delights. As a self-proclaimed foodie, she had a zest for life, evident in her passion for gardening and her love of reading.
Throughout her life, Elsa pursued her dreams and lifelong desires, including her dedication to learning the Spanish language. Her commitment to education extended to her advocacy for women's rights, as she stood up passionately for what was right and just.
A gathering of family and friends for Elsa will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Kriegshauser Mortuary-West Chapel, 9450 Olive Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63132, followed by a memorial service from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
