Sherman was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 8, 1928 to the late David Soltz Sherman, Sr. and Dorothy Cone. He graduated from the Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee in 1947, and received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Tulane University in 1951.
Sherman was a member of the St. Louis Chapters of the Young Presidents Organization and the World Presidents Organization. He was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Liquor Company, a Missouri-based wine and spirits wholesale distributor, and a member of the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America. He served on the Boards of Trustees of the Jewish Hospital of St. Louis and The Goldfarb School of Nursing. He was a beloved member of the community, and a passionate supporter of The St. Louis Zoo and The St. Louis Art Museum. A hunting and fishing enthusiast, he could often be found at the Westwood Country Club lakes, smoking a cigar and fishing for bass with his sons and grandchildren.
Sherman is survived by his wife, Susan Greenspon Sherman; his sister, Ann Sherman Lux; his sons, David Soltz Sherman III and Richard Keil Sherman; his grandchildren, Sylvie Beatrice Sherman, David Keil Sherman and Elias Jackson Sherman; his step-children, James David Seidel, Elizabeth Seidel Izenman, and Jodi Seidel Aronson; and his step-grandchildren Eleanor Jane Aronson and Jonathan Martin Aronson. He is also survived by Jean Keil Grossman, the mother of his children.
The funeral will be held at Temple Emanuel, 12166 Conway Road in St. Louis, Missouri, on Wednesday, September 17, at 11:00 A.M. Private entombment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Foundation for Barnes Jewish Hospital,1001 Highlands Plaza Dr. West, Suite 140, St. Louis, MO 63110-1337.
