Charlotte had a contagious smile and laugh.  I loved hearing about her adventures and about the things she loved and enjoyed. She will always hold a special place in my heart and memories.

I became acquainted with Charlotte through the Plant Doctor desk at the Kemper Center at the Missouri Botanical Garden.  She and I covered the desk on Friday mornings. I enjoyed talking with her during our slow moments. Charlotte was in her element answering people’s questions about everything plant related. I admired her for being at that desk with me knowing what she had to do just to get there. May she Rest In Peace and enjoy the beauty of heaven.

      The four-minute video below is pure Charlotte.  Charlotte first gives thanks to those who helped her buy a stand-up frame to allow her to stand up despite her MS. Then Charlotte goes into action as two helpers attach her to the machine and crank it up to a standing position. May we all be reminded of our many blessings  -- even the "simple" task of standing up. Charlotte resisted the status quo, showing us nothing was impossible.   VIDEO LINK:

I got to know Charlotte through the Master Gardener training program. She needed assistance getting to and from the classes, so I became the driver of her handicapped outfitted van. Oh, my goodness what a challenge. She had great faith in my nonexistent skill to manage the levers and pedals. I never found her in a funk of a mood, always a smile, a laugh. She completed the classes and began her volunteer career at the Kemper Center for Home Gardening sharing her wealth of knowledge with visitors and other volunteers.

Charlotte was a testimony to human endurance and acceptance of God's will. She had a gracious way of making each person feel special and worthwhile. When , in fact, her perseverance, strength and faith made her uniquely special. What I will miss most is her smile, wit, intelligence and grit. 

I have been inspired by Charlotte's faith and courage in going into her study and work in Forestry and in dealing with the ravages of MS while still doing what she was able with trees, plants, and people. Also, I am grateful for Renee's dedicated and loving care of Char. Renee was welcomed as an addition to our class in these recent years of her care-giving with Charlotte. 

Charlotte was a major inspiration to the Friends of the Market Community Garden when she came to visit. I started the community garden with the goal being an accessible, friendly community garden.
She wasted no time in exploring the grounds always commenting on my handiwork and giving me ideas on how to make it more accessible.  With  a heavy heart, “Charlotte, thank you for touching our lives. You will be Missed!”

Tony & Kathy -
You have lost a sister and an aunt, I  have lost a life long friend.   She handled the MS with more strength and dignity than anyone ever could.  Rest in peace, dear friend.  You've earned it.  Give Tante Emma, Uncle August and Richard a hug from me.

Charlotte was a dedicated Mo. Conservation Dept. forester for many years.  Her bravery in dealing with MS was an inspiration in many ways.  She was certainly in her element in the outdoors.  I wish you eternal enjoyment of them, Charlotte. 

Remember going to Webster College to hear her performances, her voice another gift from God. Also used to go to stables w her on Saturdays,  grooming and riding, oh how she loved those horses. My thoughts and prayers are w you.
