Betty Jane (nee Ziercher) Kaskus, age 90, peacefully passed away of natural causes at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, in Columbia, Missouri. Betty was born to the late Emil Charles Ziercher and Anne Christina (Maile) Ziercher on December 12, 1929 in St. Louis (Olivette), Missouri.
The beloved wife of the late Mark David Kaskus, Sr., Betty was preceded in death by a sister in infancy.
Betty is the loving mother of Suzan (Charles) Moser and Mark Kaskus, Jr.; proud and amazing grandmother of Alexander and Emma Moser and Savannah, Ehlannah, and Sarah Kaskus, and great grandmother of Khalil Austin; and dear aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Betty loved to sing, and was a featured soloist at many weddings, parties, ceremonies, and celebrations. She added her beautiful soprano voice with perfect pitch to the St. Louis Municipal Opera and choirs at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, Immanual Lutheran Church, Good Shepard Lutheran Church, and Lenoir Woods Chapel.
A graduate of Clayton High School and Miss Hickey’s Business School, Betty enjoyed serving others as Secretary to the Mayor of Ladue and in other administrative positions in the greater St. Louis, Missouri area at Piper Real Estate and the home offices of Venture Stores, Inc. and Dent Wizard International Corp. At age 81 Betty retired from full time work and moved to Columbia, Missouri to delight in more time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandson.
Interment was on March 26, 2020 at St. Paul’s Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, as Betty’s children and grandchildren said prayers and sang praises that she had taught them.
A Celebration of Life for Betty is tentatively scheduled for August 8, 2020 at 11:00 am in Fulton, Missouri at Veterans Park in the Whitlow Pavilion, to be followed by a family and friend reunion style potluck lunch, play, and fellowship. Please bring a dish to share; drinks and tableware will be provided.
