It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ellen Mary Howlett (Routledge) on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at the CHSLD de La Prairie where she received such compassionate care from all of the medical staff, especially Dr. Josée Mercier and her amazing team, during the last days of her life. Thanks also to Dr. Fadi Massoud and the Geriatric Assessment Unit at the Charles Lemoyne Hospital.
Ellen leaves her husband of 62 years, Michael; her daughter, Susan and her husband, Ken; her son, Brian and his wife, Sandy; and her late daughter, Anne-Marie; and her daughter, Debbie; her much loved grandchildren, Alison (Vic), Michael, Michelle, James, Sam, and Jacob; and many dear friends, including special family friends, Marlene, Audrey, Joan, Jeannine, and Della. She also leaves behind her beloved sister-in-law, Sandra, wife of her late brother Tom, and her nephews Peter (Diane), Geoff (Donna), and their children, Aidan, Ben, and Isaac.
In addition to raising four children, Ellen worked as the parish secretary at St. Francis of Assisi Church in St. Lambert where she was an active member of the congregation. She will be dearly missed by the church community that became part of her extended family. She was also involved in many community activities, especially at Maison Desaulniers, where she generously volunteered her time.
Her family welcomes friends to the visitation to be held at Collins Clarke MacGillvray White Funeral Home, 307 Rue Riverside, St. Lambert, on Friday, March 8, 2019, from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at 11:00 AM, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 844 Avenue Notre-Dame, St. Lambert, followed by a reception downstairs.
El, as she was known to family and close friends, was a devout Catholic all of her life—a devotion that helped her cope with the devastating loss of her daughter, Anne-Marie, in a car accident at the age of 19. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Anne-Marie Howlett Memorial Award in Nursing that provides scholarships for nursing students at Dawson College would be greatly appreciated.
