Virginia (Olish) was born on April 22, 1924 in Detroit, MI. She spent her early years in St. Vincent's orphanage until she was brought to live with Blanche Frebes. After graduating from high school, she worked in Detroit as a secretary at the Michigan Central Railroad Station. For over 20 years, Virginia worked as a nurse aide for Grosse Pointe's Bon Secours Hospital. She was a faithful parishioner and volunteer at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Detroit, and later at St. Lucy's in St. Clair Shores.
Virginia was a devoted wife of 52 years to the late Eugene McCarthy, a former Chief in the Detroit Fire Department. She was a loving mother to her four sons: William, Dennis (Dorothy), Gerald (Kathleen) and Thomas (Rhonda), and a doting grandmother to her eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will forever remember her joyful holiday parties (especially St. Patrick's Day) always accompanied by plenty of food, her player piano, and her infectious laughter. She loved the constant companionship of her beagles and enjoyed baking for her family and friends, working in her garden, and traveling. She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
