It's been many years ago now but I worked for Tom in the 9 Mile plant. He was pretty much a straight up guy. It was hard work but good for a 'kid' to learn hard work! My first summer job during high school at EDHS. I think it was Tom's daughter that worked in the plant as well. We were all treated equal by Tom.

I am deeply saddened to here of Mr. Morley's passing.  I had the distinct pleasure of knowing him and his family since we lived next door to them for many years.  My childhood was influenced by Mr. Morley's moral standards, patriotism and kindness to anyone he met.  He was truly an inspiration to me and to many of the kids in our neighborhood for many years.  I thought of him often in my adult life which actually led me to finding out his passing just now.

Rest in peace great uncle Tom you sure left a wonderful imprint on this earth

Very sad of Mr. Morley's passing. I have many great memories of working for the company in my teen years which still bring me smiles and laughter. For instance he would come to me and say "we'll first do this, then we'll do that, and we'll finish up doing this." Then he'd walk away. What happened to we'll we'll we'll? LOL. I remember the sons being hard working yet fun loving people who undoubtedly picked up those and other fine traits from their father. I was lucky to have him as a second father figure in my life during those years. All my best the the entire Morley family. Surely the pain will brief as there are too many wonderful memories for that to last long.

Working at Morley Candy Company was such a great time in my life. I loved Mr Morley and had the utmost respect for him. Have told many people over the years what a fine man he was to work for. I am sure he flew into heaven like a shooting star. Condolences to the entire family.

Morley Family - 

My condolences to all of you for your loss.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Mr. Tom Morley Sr. taught me some of the most important and lasting lessons of my life, and I'm going to miss him too.  

Thought I would share a quick story with you as a way to remember fondly the type of man Mr. Tom was.  As many of you know, I began my career at Morleys working with a good number of the Morley Family members.  I was only 13 or 14 years old at the time, but the memories from those days are pretty vivid - thanks in large part to Mr. Tom.

It didn't take long for me to for me to learn that getting yelled at didn't mean I was in trouble, I just meant I was learning.  Thinking back on it now, I don't know that I ever had a coach, teacher, or boss that put the fear of god and commanded the respect that Mr. Tom did when he was working on the production floor.  I knew that I needed to be on the top of my game if I was to continue being employed, and there was never a dull moment when "Big T" was around.

One such instance of this occurred after cooking large batches of spaghetti noodles in the copper pots (we had a company luncheon that day).  After cooking the noodles, I was instructed by one of the cooks to cool the noodles down with cold water when they were done cooking in the boiling water.  Upon seeing this, Mr. Tom shouted, "THAT DEFEATS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF COOKING THE NOODLES" and he proceeded to lift the entire batch of spaghetti (had to have been over 75 pounds) himself and place it back on the burner.  I learned to pay attention to details and ask questions first that day...and that Mr. Tom was a force to be reckoned with when he wanted something done right away.  Never again would I assume anything while in his presence that was for sure.

As the years went by, I can think of countless times when Mr. Tom would stop what he was doing to carefully explain (in full detail) exactly what I was doing right or wrong.  His attention to detail and personal instruction was something I will always think fondly of.

It was a joy to be in the company of Uncle Tom.  He was well read and shared interesting stories with us.  He had a very warm and generous heart and always welcomed everyone into his home.
