It is with deep sadness that her family announces the passing of Mavis Rodgers on November 12, 2019, in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Eric Rodgers (1986). Survived by Stephanie (William McAdam) and Shirley Elizabeth (Douglas Stewart) and her grandchildren Matthew McAdam, Garth McAdam (Vanessa), Graeme Stewart (Laura), and Jane Stewart, and her great grandchildren Emmett Stewart and Fiona McAdam, all of whom she loved dearly.
Mavis was born November 1, 1928, in Oldham, Lancashire, United Kingdom the daughter of Ben and Violet Cooper (Goddard). She came from a long line of Lancashire folk, solid, hard-working people, like Mavis and her husband Eric Ralph Rodgers. Growing up in Oldham, she experienced the hardships of The Great Depression and The Second World War. Despite a bout of polio as a child, Mavis took up dance, and became quite accomplished gaining awards and certificates of merit.
On July 24, 1948, Mavis married Eric in Oldham. They had two beautiful baby girls Christine Stephanie (1952) and Shirley Elizabeth (1955). In 1957, seeking a brighter future for their girls, Mavis and Eric bravely uprooted their family and immigrated to Canada, settling in St. Catharines. Their young family flourished, becoming proud Canadian citizens in 1967.
Mavis’ greatest passion was dance, and she found an opportunity to pursue it through extensive involvement in Garden City Productions as a dancer, producer and member of the Board of Directors. In recognition of her contributions to GCP over many years, Mavis was honoured as a Life Member. Mavis worked at CKTB radio for many years and as a medical secretary for several physicians.
Mavis was loved by her family and friends and will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
