John Leslie Yeilding

(1929 – 2018)

John passed away peacefully on Friday July 20 surrounded by his loving family. He was 88. John was a loving husband to Barbara and father to David and Agata and grandfather to Jack, Christopher and Szerena. He was a lifelong resident of St. Catharines. John was an avid baseball player in his youth and attended the St. Catharines Collegiate before commencing a successful career as a chartered accountant and businessman. He was proud of his profession and the values that it stood for but what really separated John was his caring personality and love of a good joke. John was always ready to help someone in need. He had a strong dedication to his community serving as the chairman of the board of the Family and Children’s Services Niagara, vice chairman of the St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation, Chairman of the St. Catharines Downtown Association and President of the Niagara District Chartered Accountant’s Association to name a few. John was an avid golfer and fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. All those who knew John will miss his sense of humour and kind caring personality. John will be remembered by his sister Mary Williams (Robert deceased), nephew Jon Williams (Ann and children Philip, David and Colin), niece Susan Williams (Leslie), cousins James Mulock (Barbara) and Marilyn Cherrington (Blake). John’s brother William predeceased him. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Pioneer Elder Care who provided such incredible support to John in his later difficult years. Funeral services will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church in St. Catharines at 1pm on Friday July 27 followed by a reception at the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club where John enjoyed many a round of golf. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or Family and Children’s Services Niagara.
