Victor "Vic" Raymond Barr

Victor “Vic” Barr, 76, of St. Louis, MO passed away suddenly on Friday, April 19, 2019 at his residence. He is preceded in death by his parents, Blaine and Betty (nee Webb) Barr and brother, Ralph (Trina) Barr. Vic is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carolyn Dorman Barr; daughter, Amanda (Uddhav) Kapadia; step children, Michael (Wendy) Dorman and Matthew (Nancy) Dorman; grandchildren, Ehan, Dev, and Milan Kapadia; 7 step grandchildren; and his sister, Judith Barr. He was a dear uncle, cousin, and friend.

Vic was man of dedicated service both to his country, family and friends. He proudly served in the United States Navy Reserves for 25 years. He spent his professional career in non-profit agencies in various accounting and finance roles. His life long passion for woodworking found full expression in retirement. The last 20 years he has spent dedicated to his art. He loved to see a piece of wood and wonder; “what is this wood telling me?” His favorite projects were “heritage pieces” that were crafted from family heirlooms or of sentimental value. He also loved making pens, various boxes and sculptures. As Vic grew into his role as an artist, he became immersed within the St. Louis Art community. He was a proud member of the Greater St. Louis Artists Association where he dedicated his skills not just as an artist but also as treasurer, organizer and mentor. Once he found his place in this community, his family had never seen him happier. Vic was a determined man with a gentle heart and quick smile. He believed in lifelong learning from nature to history to sports. Since he was a little boy, he was curious about everything and read endlessly. Vic and was humble about his many achievements. Although he may be inspired by a conversation and spontaneously tell wonderful stories about his adventures; surprising and delighting those around him. Vic was always there to listen, support and help others. In his various family roles, Vic was loyal, loving and always willing to help. His wit, thoughtfulness, and kind spirit will profoundly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends may visit on Monday, April 29, 2019 from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. at Alexander White Mullen Funeral Home in St. Ann, MO. He will then be inurned at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with full military honors at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Greater St. Louis Art Association Scholarship Fund, PO Box 312265, St. Louis, MO 63131.
