Kenneth "Ken" Higgins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, cousin, and friend, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2024, after a courageous battle with B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, on March 19, 1949, Ken was the cherished son of Ruth (née Cleveland) Dix and George Higgins.
Ken proudly served his country, enlisting in the Navy during the Vietnam War. As an electronics mechanic aboard the USS Guam, he earned a National Defense Service Medal.
Ken was a graduate of SIU Carbondale with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.
Ken's love and commitment to his family was unwavering. He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Liane Ruth (née Heisohn) Higgins, with whom he built a life filled with love and shared joys. He was affectionately known as “Genius Extraordinaire”. He is also survived by his two daughters, Christina Sheehan and Rachel Smith, and his three grandsons, Sean, London, and Gavin, who brought immense happiness to his life. Ken was proud of his sons-in-law, John Sheehan and Nathan Smith, and cherished his family above all else.
Ken's passion for life was evident in his many interests. An avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, he enthusiastically celebrated their victories and endured their defeats with a steadfast spirit. Ken was a dedicated fan of Indy Car and stock car racing, eagerly following races and enjoying the thrill of the sport. His deep love for history fueled his curiosity and passion for traveling. Whether exploring new places or sharing stories with friends and family, Ken's dry humor and calming demeanor left a lasting impression on those around him.
Ken will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on through the countless moments of joy and laughter he shared with his loved ones.

A visitation will be held for Ken at Alexander White Mullen Funeral Home, located at 11101 St. Charles Rock Rd., St. Ann, MO 63074 on Friday, August 30th, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Service will be at Alexander White Mullen Funeral Home on Saturday, August 31st, 2024 at 10:00 AM with a committal to follow at Mount Lebanon Cemetery.
