at home in Alexandria, Virginia after a brief illness. She was born in Baltimore,
Maryland on July 7, 1958. She was the youngest of three children born to her
devoted parents, the late Bertha Lee Jordan and Randolph Anthony Jordan.
Sharon had a happy childhood and delighted in being the only daughter. Fond
memories included traveling to the Atlantic City beach and boardwalk before the
casinos were built and visiting Wayne, Pennsylvania to see her cousins. She
always enjoyed children and babysitting was a favorite pursuit when she was
young. As a teenager, she worked after school at the Afro-American Newspapers
where her mother was employed for many years.
She was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools. She attended Fallstaff
Elementary, Pimlico Junior High School, and graduated from Northwestern High
School in 1976. She matriculated at Virginia State University in Petersburg,
Virginia where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of
Education in Special Education. At Virginia State University, she participated in
many organizations and was initiated into the Alpha Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Incorporated in March 1978.
Sharon met her husband, William Franklin Bundy, Jr., in 1989 and they were
married in 1991. Together, they raised two loving children, William Jordan and
Ayanna Rene. As a mother, she loved family celebrations and travel with her
children to destinations such as Niagara Falls, Ocean City, Virginia Beach, Mexico,
and the Bahamas. Raising her son and daughter was the greatest joy of her life.
Sharon’s career as an educator spanned 30 years. She began teaching in
Petersburg, Virginia and later moved to Alexandria, Virginia to work for Fairfax
County Public Schools. She taught special education at Rose Hill Elementary.
Other teaching assignments included Waynewood Elementary and Washington
Mill Elementary. She obtained a certification in Administration and became the
Assistant Principal at Washington Mill Elementary and later at Woodlawn
Elementary where she concluded her career in the Fairfax County Public Schools.
After retirement, Fairfax County Public Schools benefitted from her continued
service when she returned to work as an interim Assistant Principal and an
Interventionist to support teacher development. At George Mason University,
Sharon served as an Associate Professor teaching, mentoring, and supervising
graduate students in the Special Education Teacher Preparation Master’s
program.
Throughout her lifetime, she was proud of her alma mater, Virginia State
University and enjoyed attending homecomings and reunions. The Virginia State
Alumni Association of Northern Virginia benefited from her energy and
enthusiasm as she participated in planning fundraising events.
Her beloved sisterhood, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was an
important part of her life. She was a member of the Northern Virginia Alumnae
Chapter and a Charter Member of the Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter and
served as its first Recording Secretary. The Fairfax County Alumnae Chapter was
blessed that she shared her gifts and talents to implement impactful service to
the community. She was an active and hardworking member of the Membership,
Scholarship and School Support committees and served as the co-chair of the
EMBODI committee. Even when her illness limited her ability to work, she
continued to serve in any way that she could.
Sharon joined the Alexandria-Mount Vernon Chapter of Jack and Jill of America,
Incorporated in 2001 for the purpose of meeting other African-American families,
exposing her children to the history and culture of the African diaspora and
instilling the values of community service and philanthropy in her son and
daughter. As a leader in the chapter, Sharon held the positions of Program
Director and Teen Advisor and served on numerous committees. She was a
mentor to many mothers in the chapter as she advised them on child
development, parenting skills, and negotiating the complexities of their local
public school systems. After the graduation of her children, Sharon continued her
membership in the organization by becoming a Life Member of the Associates
Mothers Group.
Sharon enjoyed many pleasures and pastimes. Her favorite color was red. She was
knowledgeable about residential properties and became a real estate agent. She
looked forward to beach vacations; Ocean City, Maryland was a preferred
destination. She was an avid gardener, planting new flowers and vegetable plants
each spring, summer, and fall. Creatively decorating her home for each holiday
was a satisfying endeavor.
As a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister, trusted family member and friend,
