Dear Shirley,  I attended your wedding--what a warm day!-- and I am not sure I ever saw either you or Dick again.  I worked closely with Dick on AMCAS for AAMC.  I learned a lot from him and enjoyed hearing his wry comments on a variety of topics.  At one point we were assigned to share an office.  Dick said:  This doesn't mean we are going to lunch together every day.  I said OK.  His children were all teenagers and he often had the latest amazing occurrence to survive as a parent.  I had told him that I had a toddler and wasn't planning to work more than 40 hours a week.  I can assure you he drove me hard for those hours;  if  someone who had worked with me before came to ask me a question, he was quick to get rid of him/her.  He told me to create test transactions for every situation and combination of situations addressed by our massive  daily update program, coded by Rod Pratt.  I had one week and produced ten thousand transactions across ten cycles of processing.  I was mush, my brain was mush, by Friday afternoon.  I have missed Dick and thought of him often.  I was looking over our Christmas card list today and thought I should search for Dick on the Internet.  And here is where I find myself.  I enjoyed seeing the pictures of him with grandchildren (and ggchildren, I think).  The ones of him as a child during the Drepression reminded me of his saying his New England parents conserved, reserved, preserved--living simply and carefully.
