With family by her side, Randolph (Randy) Laraine Vaughan Meli peacefully departed this life on February 3, 2024. Randy (“Laraine” to family and hometown friends) was born in Petersburg, Virginia to parents Randolph Biscoe Vaughan Miles and Ivan D. Vaughan. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Robert I. Vaughan. She is survived by husband of 54 years, Donald W. Meli; brother, Donald T. Vaughan (Kit); sister, Nancy Vaughan Jackson (Charles); four nieces (Ali, Becca, Sarah, Anna); two nephews (Drew, Anthony); and eight grand nieces and nephews. Randy grew up in Colonial Heights, Virginia, attended Colonial Heights and Petersburg Public Schools, and Second Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. She loved music and was a lifelong choir member, piano player, and season ticket holder for the George Mason University concert series. She loved reading and her book club. She and husband, Don, enjoyed traveling the world visiting six continents during summer breaks and retirement. Randy graduated from Madison College (now JMU) and was a member and President of SIGMA KAPPA Sorority. She was a distinguished elementary school teacher at Braddock Elementary in Fairfax County for 31 years and saw many changes to a booming county. Her passion and legacy were service to family, young learners, and the First Presbyterian Church of Annandale where she was a dedicated choir member, elder, deacon, and volunteer for over forty years. In leu of flowers, consider a donation to First Presbyterian Church of Annandale. Rest in peace, sweet and strong and steady soul. A funeral service for Laraine will be held Monday, February 12, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Annandale, 7610 Newcastle Dr, Annandale, VA 22003. Burial will take place at Blandford Cemetery, 319 S. Crater Road Petersburg, VA on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 12:00pm.
