Norma Louise Green (Uhlir), 79, passed away on September 18, 2017 at Rose Court/Garden Ridge Skilled Nursing Care Unit in Greenspring Village, Springfield, VA. She passed away peacefully after complications from a long battle with Parkinson’s disease with the addition of the onset of Dementia in the last several years of her life. She was born in Marianna, PA on April 20, 1938 and grew up in the Washington, PA area. She moved to the Washington, DC area in the 1960s. Mrs. Green lived in Alexandria, VA prior to entering Greenspring Village in 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband COL (Ret) Robert W. Green, US Army, in February 1997, by her parents Anthony and Lillian Phillips Uhlir of Marianna, PA and her brother Tony Uhlir.
Norma Green graduated from Nursing School at Washington, PA Hospital and was a former Registered Nurse who worked for numerous years at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City; Mount Vernon Hospital, Alexandria, VA; and Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, Washington, DC.
Norma leaves her step-daughter Diana Jill Dittmer (Green), Fairfax, VA; step grandsons Christopher Dittmer of Fairfax, VA and Jeffrey Dittmer, Alexandria, VA and several nephews (Scott, Michael and Lance Uhlir).
She was an avid golfer at Fort Belvoir Golf Club (both the South and North courses) and played with the Fort Belvoir Ladies Golf Association for many years. Additionally she served as its President in the mid-1990’s and had a Hole-in-One at the club in 1993. Golf fulfilled her life after retirement prior to her debilitating illness. She would join her golfing friends for a game anytime/anyplace. Additionally she enjoyed traveling and playing golf and did so with her husband prior to his death.
Mrs. Green was a parishioner of Queen of Apostles Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA for many years where the marriage to Robert W. Green was performed.
Visitation will be at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA on September 24, 2017 from 4-6 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, 4329 Sano Street, Alexandria, VA on September 25, 2017 at 12:00 PM. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be interred with her husband COL Robert W. Green at a date to be determined.
