Mike was born on September 1, 1948, in Pittsburgh, PA to Harry and Dorothy Kyle. He had a true calling to serve his country and his community, so following his graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School he enlisted in the US Air Force in Oct 1967. During his enlistment, he served bravely in the Vietnam War while assigned to Bien Hoa AB, Vietnam, and was also stationed at Suwon AB, Korea, and Loring AFB, Maine. During his military career, he was awarded the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Following his honorable discharge in 1971, Mike returned home and continued to serve the community by joining the Arlington County Police Department. He retired from the ACPD as a Major Crimes Detective in September 1998.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years Debra, daughter Rebecca (Michael) Custodio, daughter Sarah (Dean) Tran, grandchildren Caitlyn, Jason, Angelina, Hannah, and Gabriel, great-grandchildren Jackson, David, and Rhea and his brother David Kyle.
He will be remembered for being a friend to all, having a wild sense of humor, and never missing a NATS baseball game. Over the last 13 years, Mike battled diligently against his condition as a stroke patient. During that time Mike not only taught us patience, but also the importance of friends and family. His memories will serve as a reminder to all to cherish our time with family because it can help overcome any adversity.
Services will be held at 1130, Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a charity that supports our fallen/wounded heroes, military, and all first responders.
