Joan is survived by her son Douglas White and her daughter Jacqueline Lausier (Luc) and her six grandchildren Jake, Sam (Janelle), Matthew, Elise, Rachel (Matthew) and Robert John. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years Colonel John H White Jr (Ret) better known to family and friends as Jack.
Joan was born on June 9, 1935 in Port Chester, NY to Ethel and Edward Strom. She graduated from Harrison High School in 1953 and soon after married her high school sweetheart Jack. Upon graduating from Cornell University, Jack entered the Air Force and Joan embraced her role as a military spouse and commanded the home front through multiple deployments and relocations. Upon Jack’s passing in 2001 Joan moved into the Greenspring Village Retirement Community where she enjoyed spending time with her many friends and neighbors. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed mahjong as well as numerous other activities. Joan resided at Greenspring for over 20 years and she will be dearly missed in the community by all who knew her. Travel was one of her passions and she visited many places around the globe over the years. Most important to her was family and she was fortunate to have had all her grandkids grow up around her. Grandma so enjoyed the holidays and numerous birthdays and other family gatherings and the grands enjoyed her presence. There are many, many fond memories.
A private family service and burial will be scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Capital Caring Health (www.capitalcaring.org). The family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff at the Adler Center who provided comfort and solace during a difficult time.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.demainefunerals.com for the White family.
