Of Fairfax Station, VA, on Sunday, February 28, 2010. She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Colonel Vincent P. McDonald, USA (Ret.); her loving daughter Maureen A. Fehrs and husband Eric A. Lunau and grandson, Nathan A. Fehrs of Wilmington, NC. Born in Pawtucket, RI, Joan was a graduate of Bryant University and received an MBA from Long Island University. She was an Army wife, and after her husband’s retirement, worked as an Accountant for the Army Corps of Engineers for 12 years. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Rd., Springfield, VA 22151. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 10 am at the Church of the Nativity, 6400 Nativity Ln., Burke, VA 22015. Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial gift in Joan’s name to the Church of Nativity, annotated “Operation Starfish-Joan McDonald.” Operation Starfish is the Church’s longstanding and acclaimed outreach to the poor of Haiti.
