Gail Todd DeSeguirant, 88, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 2. Gail was born in Jackson, MI, and was the youngest of four children born to the late Rolland and Mildred (Strine) Todd. A devoted wife and mother, Gail was married for over 61 years to the late Henry C. DeSeguirant.
Gail grew up in Washington, DC where she graduated from Western High School in 1951. She attended Swarthmore College in PA where she earned a B.A. degree in Psychology in 1955. Gail started her career in personnel administration with the federal government, before devoting many years to raising a family.
Early in life, Gail became an accomplished pianist, and loved horseback riding. As a stay-at-home mom, Gail enjoyed many busy years during which she served as Girl Scout leader, band uniform chairman, and Girl Scout Service Unit 4 chairperson. Around 1978, she returned to work as an administrative assistant for P. E. Systems, where she later advanced to Director of Personnel before retiring in 1993.
Gail loved reading, arts and crafts, baking for family and friends, sewing, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and serving the community as a volunteer, spreading love everywhere she went. She also loved to travel; she and Henry enjoyed many trips together exploring Europe, Turkey, Greece, Canada, and many destinations in the US. They also enjoyed annual vacations to Hatteras Island with family, where Gail loved collecting seashells during long walks on the beach. In her later years, Gail enjoyed visiting her daughters and grandchildren, singing in the church choir and volunteering at Fairlington United Methodist Church.
Gail is survived by two daughters: Karen Gingras (Stan) of Boones Mill, VA and Debbie Absher (Kevin) of Kernersville, NC. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kellie Gingras, Justin Absher (Melisa), Kayla Gingras and Ryan Absher. Gail was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three siblings: Lois Ann Meyers , Leah Jane (Kierstead) Beckman, and Noel Todd. She also leaves behind her dear friend of more than 80 years, Karen Zehner Lucas.
Special thanks to the many loving caregivers who looked after Gail at the Park Oak Grove during her final years in Roanoke, VA.
A celebration of Gail's life will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 11:30am at Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield, VA. The family will receive friends from 11-11:30am prior to the service. Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery at 1pm.
