Frances Elaine (Concah) Reiher passed away on March 27, 2022. She was 95 years old. Frances Concah was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 14, 1926, and lived in Jamaica, Queens, NY. In 1948, Frances received her Bachelor of Arts from New York University. Frances pursued a career as a children's librarian and received her Master's Degree in Library Science from the Pratt Institute in 1949. On June 4, 1949, she married Eugene J. Reiher at the US Naval Academy chapel. They moved frequently from coast to coast, living in Virginia, California, Florida, Illinois, and Rhode Island, before settling permanently in northern Virginia. Frances and Eugene remained married until his death in 2013. Frances worked as a children's librarian in Great Lakes, San Francisco, Key West, and Norfolk, and most recently in Fairfax County. As a children's librarian, she entertained and educated children by telling stories, performing puppet shows, and encouraging children to acquire a love of literature. Frances was well known throughout Fairfax County for her children's storytelling events performed at libraries and schools. Frances raised five beautiful children. She was a lifelong devoted reader and enjoyed theater wherever she lived. Frances instilled her love of these arts in her children and grandchildren. Frances served as an elder at the Kirkwood Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Burke Presbyterian Church. Frances is survived by her sons Ralph Reiher of Fredricksburg, Peter Reiher of Los Angeles, Frederick Reiher of Burke, and daughter Rosemary Steinruck of Richmond. Also surviving are grandchildren Christopher Steinruck, Adam Steinruck, Holly O’Connor, Hannah Gilleland, and Leigh Goodson, and great-grandchildren Aidan Muller, Jackson Muller, Railyn Steinruck, and Lily Kate Gilleland. A service is scheduled for a later date. In lieu of flowers, make memorial contributions to the Fairfax Hospital Foundation and the Fairfax County Library.
