DOROTHY McCAA (Age 99)
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29, 2013, surrounded by her children, at the Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield, VA. She was born in Gallitzin, PA, on September 14, 1914, to Robert Bruce McCaa and Rose Beatrice McCaa. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 46 years, Joe (1988), and all her brothers and sisters: Bob (Helen), Millie (Don Reilly), Rose (Stew Hertzog), Louise, Jack (Anne), baby Joseph, and Frank; and by her sisters-in-law Anna Flynn and Mary (Marty) Mann and brother-in-law Bill (Trudy) Flynn. Dorothy leaves behind her seven children: Richard (Veronica) of Springfield, VA, Sandra Reinhardt of Long Island, NY, Kathleen of Annandale, VA, Terrance (Nancy) of Crystal Lake, IL, Geoffrey of Marshall, VA, Patrick (Susan) of Longwood, FL, and Anita (Eric Mondale) of Oakland, CA. Dorothy is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Lisa Reinhardt, Joseph (Tara) Reinhardt, Amy (Michael) Longo, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Reinhardt, all of Long Island, NY; Michael Flynn of Grand Forks, ND, Matthew Flynn of Long Beach, CA, Taylor (Jeff) Carroll of Springfield, VA, Erin, Jacqua, and Sammy Flynn of Warrenton, VA, Kate Flynn of Durham, NC, and David and Carolyn Flynn of Longwood, FL. Dorothy is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Tanner, Cole, Riley, and Devyn Longo, Andrew and Megan Reinhardt, Molly Reinhardt, and William and Logan Carroll; and by many nieces and nephews.
Before she was married Dorothy worked at the Bureau of the Census in Washington, DC. In later years she served as a volunteer in her parish church of St. Anthony's in Falls Church, VA, and worked for Minnesota Fabrics, also in Falls Church, and for the Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions in Washington, DC.
Dorothy loved her family with all her heart, and equally heartfelt was her love of God. She enjoyed travelling, gardening, sewing, playing piano, reading. She was a jig-saw puzzler extraordinaire and a prolific letter writer. Well into her 90's she played croquet and miniature golf with her great-grandchildren. Dorothy will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy's family will receive friends on Friday, October 4, from 6-9 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Rd, Springfield, VA. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Rd, Springfield, VA. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in the Columbarium with her husband at a date to be determined.
