Christian Richard Bartholomew

Born on September 20, 1982, Christian Richard Bartholomew, aka Mr. Happy, the Binkster, brought light and love into the world. The beloved son of Anne and Alan Bartholomew, Christian entered into eternal life on April 19, 2018, after a long battle with brain cancer. He is also survived by brother Nathan, sister-in-law Natthanan Paulie and Niece Tara Bartholomew, sister Kelianne and brother-in-law, Timothy McFillin, maternal grandmother Alice Bosselman, paternal grandparents Richard and Barbara Bartholomew and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Christian graduated from Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia in 2001, where he enjoyed his years in the marching band and drama crew.

Christian’s love of nature led him to make his home in the mountains of North Carolina where he was able to make frequent use of his skills as an Eagle Scout, camping and hiking year-round. He was an incredibly talented carpenter, despite the challenges he faced with his health, he always kept building. Christian was a sensitive, kind, fun-loving soul, a loyal friend, animal lover, and Phish band fanatic. He was passionate in his desire to participate in research to learn more about possible cures for brain cancer, always fighting for others before himself. His brave acceptance of his life challenge, his positive energy and grateful nature inspired everyone he encountered on his journey.

Visitation will be at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, Virginia 22151 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm Wednesday, April 25, 2018. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, Virginia 22152 at twelve o’clock noon Thursday, April 26, 2018, followed by a reception in the Bradican Room.
