Anne was born was born April 17, 1944 at the Columbia Hospital for Women in the District of Columbia, Washington, DC to A. Philip and Betty Cochran Stockvis and grew up in Alexandria, Virginia.
Anne spent her childhood on the Tennis Courts of Belle Haven Country Club where she was an excellent player who won several tournaments and formed many lifelong friends who shared the same interest in Tennis. She also traveled the world each summer with her parents as her father’s position with the Federal Government took him to many foreign countries and Posts. Anne was always well prepared prior to her travels as a young girl by learning about the culture of her new temporary home out of a desire to experience everything the country had to offer. Of all of the countries Anne visited, Milan Italy was her favorite.
Anne had a very special bond with her grandfather, Howe P. Cochran and spent considerable time with him at his Law Firm Office and at his home in Washington, DC where her grandfather instilled the value of lifelong learning in Anne who desired exploration and developed an inquisitive mind. There was never a stone unturned. Her grandfather and she shared a passion for critical thinking style books which made Anne well read and enriched her life.
Anne spent her formative years at The Immaculate School in Washington, D.C. and Graduated High School from Groveton High School in 1962. During this time, Anne’s love of Music offered her many opportunities to sing in the school Choir and play instruments in the orchestra. Following graduation, Anne attended The George Washington University graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1966.
After College, like her father, Anne joined the United States Federal Government and worked in many positions during her career. Anne was an entrepreneur at heart and developed several business and financial plans. Anne’s commitment, dedication, and passion were unwavering and everlasting. Anne retired as a Government Analyst from the Department of the Navy in 2001.
After retirement, Anne moved to Florida to enjoy the sun and warmth Jacksonville offered, but returned to Virginia in 2019 to be closer to her family.
Anne is predeceased by her parents A. Philip and Betty Cochran Stockvis. Her grandfather Howe P. Cochran and his wife Margaret. She is survived by her nephew Karl Verell of Alexandria, VA and cousins Howe and Paul (Helen) Cochran.
A Celebration of life and graveside service will be held at Mount Comfort Cemetery 6600 South Kings Highway Alexandria, VA 22306. Time and date to be determined in the latter part of December 2022.
