ANN MARIE OBERNESSER RUSSO of Springfield, VA died peacefully at home at the age of 78 on October 1, 2013 after a long battle with her family’s history of Huntington’s Disease. Ann was born and raised in Utica, New York and graduated from Utica Catholic Academy and was a member of the first graduating class of the Utica School of Practical Nursing. Ann was a faithful parishioner of St. Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church and later St. Lawrence the Martyr Roman Catholic Church which was established in 1967. She leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Roy Russo; her daughter, Susan Elizabeth Russo Kowalski, and her grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Kowalski, Stephen Jerome Kowalski, Carmella Mary Marrero and John Kerch Russo. She also leaves behind a brother, Lawrence Obernesser of Utica, NY and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father Mary Adrean and George Obernesser and by brothers and sisters Leo, Thomas, Charles, Agnes, Rose, Patricia, and in March 2011 by her son, Andrew Russo.
