Ron was born November 11, 1926 at Tallula, IL, the son of Troy F. and Letha Daniel Carter and the grandson of John Henry Daniel (Pap Pap) and Lillie Frances (Mom) Daniel. He married Shirley L. Buerkett on August 20, 1949. They were later divorced.
Surviving are one sister Janetta F. Gum of Lakeland, FL, two nieces Marsha (Jack) Weddle of Metamora, IL, Beth (Norman) Roughley of Springfield, a sister-in-law Jean Carter of Plant City, FL, several grand nephews and grand nieces and their children, and devoted friends Ron and Carol Belford. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one sister Allegra Tinsley, two brothers Harold L. Carter and Donald F. Carter, and nephew and namesake Ronald B. Carter (survived by wife Tonna Carter) of Lakeland, FL.
Ron attended Tallula Grade School where he was valedictorian of his class and received the D.A.R. Medal for excellence in history. And he also graduated from Tallula Community High School in 1944. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and Tokyo, Japan as a Staff Sargent with the occupation forces.
Ron joined the staff of the First National Bank of Springfield on February 5, 1947 as a clerk and retired from there on December 31, 1987 as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. He held the same position with the parent company, First Bank of Illinois Company, and retired from there at the same time. He served as Secretary of the Board of Directors of both. After their purchase by First Bank, he served on the Board of Directors of First Bank of Cobden, IL, Farmers State Bank of Dahlgren, IL, Benton Community Bank, Benton, IL and the Land of Lincoln Bank of Springfield. He graduated from the Illinois Bankers School at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Il, and from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, WI.
Ron was active in various organizations, having served as Commander of Tallula Branch of American Legion, Vice Chairman of Sangamon County Red Cross, Secretary of Springfield Chamber of Commerce, committees of the United Way, President of Sangamon-Menard Bankers Federation, President of Group 8 and Board Member of Illinois Bankers Federation. He was a lifelong, diehard Cubs fan. Ron accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the Billy Graham Crusade held in Springfield. He attended Central Baptist Church.
Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 South Koke Mill Road, Springfield, is serving the family. Visitation will be held Monday, March 28 at 10:30 A.M., at the funeral home with the funeral immediately after at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. Mary Ellen Sharp officiating.
