Roman James Romer

Roman was born May 30, 1934, in Lincoln, IL, the son of Roman Clarence and Dorothy Davis Romer.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University. Roman then went on to earn his master’s degree plus forty-eight hours from Sangamon State University. He was employed as a school teacher and also in administration with Springfield School District 186. Roman attended Blessed Sacrament Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom (sister-in-law, Marietta) and Bob Romer; and sisters, Joan (brother-in-law, Forrest) Suycott and Lynn Bayliss.

Roman is survived by his sons, Michael (Gina) Romer of Springfield, Mark Romer of Buffalo Grove, IL, and Matt (Melissa) Romer of Galena, IL; grandchildren, Joe Ryan, Jessica Ryan, Jackie Romer, Olivia Romer, Reese Romer, Kellyn Romer, Roman Romer, and Brant Romer; great-granddaughter, Willow Jensen; and brothers, Steve, Dick, and Joe Romer.

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield, IL with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

A party to celebrate Roman’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at KC Hall, 2200 Meadowbrook Rd. in Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
