Born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 10, 1954, the son of Robert and Irene Bray Rich. He married Patricia Ann Aldrich in Burbank, Illinois, in 1975. He attended Oak Lawn High School and furthered his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where, in 1976, he received his Bachelor of Science degree.
He was a long time resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, where he began a distinguished career as an actuary for Lincoln Benefit Life. He relocated to Springfield, Illinois, where he continued his work with Horace Mann, until retirement in 2020.
His father, Robert Rich, Sr., predeceased him. Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia of Springfield, IL, and leaves behind his mother, Irene (Bray) Rich of Springfield, and siblings and their spouses Debra (Gerard) Hess of Kalamazoo, MI, Michael (Carrie) Rich of Rockford, IL, and Patrick (Sherrie) Rich of Oak Lawn, IL.
He also leaves behind his favorite pets. Bob was an avid lover of companion animals and could be seen walking his menagerie throughout the neighborhood.
Bob enjoyed all sports and collecting sports memorabilia. He was actively involved and a life member of numerous national organizations, among them the Society of Actuaries, the American Contract Bridge League and the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Bob’s warm personality allowed him to nurture many long-term friendships. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Donations can be made in his honor to the Barbershop Harmony Society, Land of Lincoln Chorus, Springfield Chapter.
His family is being served by Bisch Funeral Homes. An Open House Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at Villas at Pine Creek Clubhouse, 820 Colorado Court, Springfield, IL.
