Robert E. "Bob" Ooton, 66, of Chatham, passed away on Sunday, October 27, at St. John's Hospital. Bob was born on March 31, 1947 in Springfield, the son of Robert and Fern (Grandjean) Ooton. Bob proudly served our country in the Army during The Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Springfield High School, a lifetime member of VFW Post #4763 and American Legion Post #759, he was an avid fan of the Cardinals and the Bears. Bob retired from the State of Illinois Comptroller's office in 2011.
Surviving Bob are his son Bob (Joan) Ooton of Columbus, OH, his sister Phyllis (Paul) Hall of St. Louis, MO, and a niece Janelle (Bill) Fuller of Branson, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Michael Ooton.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL 62711. The family will receive guests from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Chatham Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Bob’s name may be made to Friends of St. John’s Hospital.
