Robert C. Heckenkamp, Jr.,88 of Springfield, passed away on Friday June 28, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on October12, 1924 in Quincy, Il., the son of Robert C. and Evelyn Taylor Heckenkamp, Sr. He married Betty L. Edwards in Quincy, on October 25, 1947 and she survives.
Mr. Heckenkamp is also survived by his two sons: Timothy R. Heckenkamp of Springfield and Chuck (Susan) Heckenkamp of Pleasant Plains, His daughter Nancy Ann (Duane) Bautista of Aliso Viejo, Ca.,two sisters: Betty Becks of St. Charles Mo., and Evelyn Jansen of Quincy, one brother Jim Heckenkamp of Quincy, eight grandchildren: Katie (Don) Gray, Andy Heckenkamp, Stephanie (Eric Reiter) Heckenkamp, Lindsay (Kory) Kovski, Emilie Heckenkamp, Craig Bautista, Kylie Bautista and Christy (Rickey) Davis and seven great grandchildren: Noah Gray, Gianna Gray, Elinor Kovski, Joseph Kovski, Wedge Heckenkamp Washburne Heckenkamp and Drake Davis. He was preceeded in death by his brother Tom Heckenkamp.
Robert was a World War II Veteran stationed in Iceland as an army engineer. He co-owned Heckenkamp Greenhouse and Flower Shop and Tri-State Wholesale Florist in Quincy before expanding the business to Springfield in 1958. After his retirement in 1984 Mr. Heckenkamp worked as a handyman for his family, friends and church. Robert was an usher at Blessed Sacrament and Christ The King Parishes.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday July2, 2013 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road with burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetary where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct Military Honors. The family will meet friends from11:00 am untill the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
