Robert G. Clem, 91, of Springfield, died at 12:17 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Robert was born on December 7, 1922 in Herrin, IL, the son of Jesse O. and Edna C. Rhodes Clem. He married Joan Irene Satorius; she preceded him in death. He later married Dorothy Paul on November 3, 1990. Robert graduated from Herrin High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois State Normal University. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during WWII and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and China War Memorial Medal. He was also employed as a Civil Engineer with the State of Illinois. Robert was a lifetime member of Springfield Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #158, past-president of the State of Illinois Reserve Officer's Association, and past-president of State of Illinois Chapter of the American Right of Way Association. He enjoyed flying his own plane, singing, dancing and was an avid Cubs fan. He was also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Clem of Springfield; two daughters, Sandra (husband, James) Parker of Springfield and Patricia (husband, Dennis) Kerfoot of St. Charles, MO; five grandchildren, Shannon (husband, Fred) Parker Sexton, Jessica (husband, Brian) Parker Dunzweiler, Nigel (husband, David) Salzman Poe, Andrea (husband, Matt) Salzman Niesman, and Kristie (husband, Todd) Salzman Parker; and thirteen great grandchildren. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with James Rogers officiating. Military honors will be provided by Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and Department of Defense.
