Rhoda Ann Riffey

Rhoda was born in Virden, IL December 18, 1926 the daughter of Harry and Della (Weedman) Hammond. She married Otis L. “Vern” Riffey April 24, 1946 and he preceded her in death August 15, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her son, Steven in 1952, her brother, Harry Hammond, sister-in-law Louella Hammond, a step-brother Willis Leach and sister, Cleora Allen.

Rhoda was very active in the Virden and Girard communities for many years. She served in the Mayor’s office while Ted Lay was mayor and then was very proud to be the first lady realtor in Macoupin County representing Ted Lay Real Estate. After her retirement, she moved to Chatham to be near her family. She enjoyed antiques, traveling, doll collection, everything Elvis, but most of all, spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a devoted life member of the 1st Church of the Brethren, Virden, Girard and Springfield.

Surviving are her children: Susan Riffey of Chatham, IL, Thomas (Theresa) Riffey of Raymond, IL David Riffey Sr. of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kimbra (Thomas) Summerlin of Springfield, her grandchildren: Michael Riffey, Tracy Riffey, David (Jen) Riffey Jr, Ayrin (Ryan) Hintz, Mary (Kyle) Englar and Emily Ramey. Seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Virden, IL with Pastor Bobbi Dykema officiating. A celebration of life will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 from 4-7 pm at Mario’s Restaurant 2841 Mansion Rd. Springfield, IL 62711
