He was born on Sept. 20, 1933 in Springfield, the son of the late Chauncy F. and Helen V. Berry. He married Norma Kay Boston on Nov. 17, 1956 and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2021.
Rex served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal. He worked as a lobbyist in the political arena for CIPS/Ameren for 34 years. After retirement, he worked for Bisch Funeral Homes for 10 years. He was a past member of the Sangamon County Board and Precinct Committeeman. Rex had served as Past President of both Junior Achievement and The United Way. He served as Commander of the Korean War Veterans of Springfield, and was a member of the American Legion Post 23 and the VFW Posts 755 and 10302. He was also a very active member of West Side Christian Church.
Rex was a diehard Fighting Illini, St. Louis Cardinal Fan and Fisherman.
He was a Proud Veteran who loved his country and helping other Veterans!
Rex is survived by 2 daughters, Kayla (husband Jack) Dowden of Kalamazoo, MI and Alayne (husband Mark) Scheff of Springfield; 2 grandchildren, Tonia K. Berry of Springfield and Andrew R. Dowden of Kalamazoo, MI; and 1 great-grandson Traven Berry.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield where visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022 from 11 am until time of the funeral service at 12:30 pm. Rev. Mike Harney will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield where military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Interveteran’s Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
