Reginald P. “Reggie” Hanson, 62, of Springfield, passed away Sunday October 9, 2011 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville, IL.
He was born in Collinsville, IL October 4, 1949 the son of Paul P. and Alma (Patterson) Hanson. His parents have preceded him in death. Reggie married Sandra (Griswold) Wise in Pearisburg, VA August 31, 1990 and she survives.
He is also survived by his daughter, Courtney D. Hanson of Chicago, IL, a son Kevin (wife Amy) Wise, two grandchildren, Brandon and Paige Wise all of Carlinville, IL, two sisters, Linda Blacharczyk of Woodridge, IL, and Melissa “Missy” (husband Jim) Haworth of Bourbonnais, IL. He has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. enlisting April 19, 1968 with his honorable discharge April 16, 1971. While in service, he achieved the rank of Corporal and earned the National Defense Service Medal, a Cross of Gallantry with palm, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Viet Nam Service Medal with 3 stars, and the Rifle-Sharpshooter medal.
After returning home from the service, Reggie worked as a finance manager and both sales and general manger for several large automotive dealerships in the St. Louis, MO area. He was a member of the Catholic faith and a life member of the VFW.
Honoring his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory. A memorial gathering in his honor will be on Friday October 14, 2011 from 11:00 am- 12:15 pm at Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen, Springfield, IL. A procession will leave the funeral home at 12:30 pm for Camp Butler National Cemetery where a graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm with Monsignor James Hanson, (Reggies’s uncle and godfather) officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the United States Marine Corp.
