Rebecca Elizabeth Hardwick

Rebecca Elizabeth Hardwick, 23, of Ashland, passed away at 8:18 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. Rebecca was born January 29, 1991 in Springfield, the daughter of Walter Sam and Janet Mary Grilec Hardwick. Rebecca was a graduate of Virginia High School and attended and graduated from the University of Spa and Cosmetology Arts. She was also a Tech in the emergency room at Memorial Medical Center and was employed by Permanent Sunsation in Virginia. Rebecca was named the Virginia BBQ Queen and also awarded the title of most photogenic and Miss Congeniality. She enjoyed volleyball, hunting, painting, sketching, music, traveling, and being an artist. To her friends and family, Rebecca was a person who was always lively, loving, and enjoyed life. Her dearest friends held a special place within her heart. Her family meant the world to her. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Sam Hardwick and Emmett Grilec. She is survived by her parents, Jan and Sam Hardwick of Ashland; her siblings, Valerie Hardwick of Virginia and Morgan Hardwick of Springfield; her grandmothers, Barbara Hardwick of Virginia and Betty Grilec of Tinley Park, IL; her beloved dogs, Annie, Angus, and Scoobie; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Luke Church, 240 E. Myrtle St., Virginia. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at St. Luke Church with the Very Rev. Christopher J. Brey, V.F., celebrant. Burial will follow at Beardstown City Cemetery.
