Nancy Whalen, 69, of New Berlin, died at 5:32 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at her home. Nancy was born March 3, 1936, in Springfield the daughter of Thomas P. and Mabel E. Burge Gaffigan. She married Daniel Whalen September 30, 1961 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Springfield. Mrs. Whalen was employed by Franklin Life for 35 years, retiring on December 31, 1995. She was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was active in the theatrical community, she volunteered at Muni and was a board member of the Theater Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Stephen Whalen and sister, Delores Schlemm. She is survived by husband: Dan of New Berlin; three sons: Kevin (wife, Diana) of Gridley, IL, David of Arlington, VA and Greg Whalen of Bloomington; one daughter: Gina (husband, Steve) Doerner of Enfield, CT; five grandchildren, Shawna, Carly and Logan Whalen, Maia and Riley Doerner; two sisters: Bertha (husband, John) Risse and Margaret Gaffigan both of Springfield and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 4-7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2005 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 W. Lawrence, Springfield with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
