Nancy E. Lashbrook, 64, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday February 12, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center. She left the way she lived, surrounded by her loving family. Although she has been robbed of life, and life has been robbed of her caring presence, we can take solace in the fact that her pain from ALS has ended. Heaven now has the most patient and kind person to have walked this planet. She was born on December 3, 1952 in Springfield to Norman and Eleanor Judd Richter. Nancy married Steve Lashbrook on July 20, 1974 in Springfield at Grace Lutheran Church and he survives.
Mrs. Lashbrook is also survived by one daughter Lauren (Charles) Davis, one brother David Richter, two grandchildren: Charles Richter Davis and Eleanor Blake Davis, and one brother-in-law John (Beth) Lashbrook all of Springfield as well as one nephew and several nieces, cousins, an uncle and several aunts.
Nancy graduated from Springfield High School in 1970 and went on to earn a B.S. in education from Illinois State University and an M.S. in education from Eastern Michigan University. Nancy was a middle school teacher at Pleasant Plains and at Whitmore Lake in Michigan for over thirty years. After retiring back to Springfield, she enjoyed reconnecting with her former students as they started their professional careers and families, many of whom have sent their condolences. Nancy and Steve loved walking on the beach during the winter months at their residence in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. She enjoyed cooking but most of all she cherished the time she had with her beloved grandchildren Richter and Blake.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday February 17, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2477 West Washington Street with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating. The family will meet friends from 4:00 pm until the time of service Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church for the benefit of the preschool, or to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois, 610 North Seventh Street, Springfield, Illinois 62702.
