Mike was born August 26, 1950, in Chicago, the son of Walter and Alice (Pekofske) Kaczmarz. He married Patricia Quinlan Schuh on September 7, 2003, in Tinley Park, IL.
Mike graduated from Quigley South High School in Chicago and earned his bachelor’s degree from Blackburn College. He “never worked a day in his life” as an English teacher and basketball coach at St. Rita and St. Francis de Sales in Chicago; and Virden, Sacred Heart-Griffin, and Buffalo Tri-City. Mike also coached track and golf. He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame with over 400 wins, including a 1988 2nd place finish in the state tournament. A lover of golf, Mike was a “member” of the Brookhills Golf Club. He was an avid reader, bardolator, Chicago Cubs fan, and proud Dziadzia to Theo. A music enthusiast and Parrothead, he believed “Some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic, but I had a good life all the way.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tommy Kaczmarz.
Mike is survived by his wife, Patty Schuh of Springfield; son, William and daughter-in-law Christina Schuh of Portland, OR; grandson, Theo; brother, Ken Kaczmarz of Bonita Springs, FL; sisters-in law; brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:15 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. A Memorial Ceremony will follow at 4:30 p.m. with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
