Laura M. Denton, 97, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. Laura was born on May 12, 1915 in Springfield, the daughter of Henry and Elsie (Van Boeing) Hess. She married George Denton in Springfield on January 24, 1937. They celebrated 67 years of marriage until he preceded her in death in 2004. Laura was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, served as a board member of the Springfield Women’s Club, and was a member of the Springfield Church Women United. She worked for J.L. Hudson Co. in Detroit, MI for 15 years retiring in 1970. She volunteered with the American Red Cross, serving 3 terms on the Board Abbeba Chapter- Daughters of the Nile. She is survived by family friends, Joe and Louise Bringuet and family, and several cousins. Also preceding her in death are her parents, and her sister Catherine Cline.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 E Allen St, Springfield, IL 62703. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from noon until the time of services. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Greg Busboom of St. John’s Lutheran Church will officiate the services. Memorials in her name may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
