He was born on November 14, 1948 in Springfield, the son of the late Edward and Mabel (Reamer) Hopkins. He married Shirley Bounds on September 13, 1969 in Springfield.
Mr. Hopkins served in the U. S. Army. He worked as a consultant for Kaskaskia Engineering in Belleville, IL. Previously he had worked for and retired from the State of IL Department of Transportation. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, he is survived by 2 sons, Russ (wife Renee) Hopkins of Chatham, IL and their 2 daughters Alyssa and Addison, and Michael Allen Hopkins of Chatham and his 2 daughters Kaitlin and Cassidy; a brother Edward Russell (wife Patricia) Hopkins, and 2 sisters Helen Louise Chappell and Dorothy “Dottie” Hopkins-Rehan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Jeremiah Hopkins and a sister Verna Baker.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 4 to 7 pm. Additional visitation will be on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 9 am until time of the funeral service at 10 am, with Rev. Craig Sweet officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Interveterans’ Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
