He was born on December 14, 1942, in Beardstown, IL, the son of Karl Churchill and Ethel Imogene (Schaefer) Moore.
Karl graduated from Beardstown High School. He earned his master’s degree from Western Illinois University and later studied at University of Connecticut. He worked as an archivist for the Illinois State Archives for 42 years, and enjoyed supervising the IRAD program. Karl enjoyed photography, cooking, reading, writing, research, and loved his companion cats. He was known to be a curious, life-long learner. He was a kind and gentle man who took pride in his nickname, Mr. Mellow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his cats, Betsy and Goldie.
Karl is survived by his children, Sarah Moore of Springfield and Matt (Dianna) Moore of Urbana; special friend, Barbara Heflin; grandchildren, Max, Izzy, Sam, and Owen Moore; brothers, Gary (Donna) Moore of Meredosia and Don (Cathy) Schaefer of Beardstown; and beloved cat, Macie.
Graveside Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Roselawn Memorial Park with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating.
