Joseph Feuer, age 85, a native of Springfield, died on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital following a short illness. Born to Julius and Lena Feuer on April 28, 1925, he married Frances Pell on September 16, 1962.
He was one of the founders and president of General Auto Supply Co. and a member of the Board of Directors of Belle Feuer Insurance Agency, Inc. As a member of Automotive Wholesalers of Illinois he also served on the Board of Directors.
He served several terms as president of Springfield Jewish Federation and many terms on the Board of Directors of Temple Israel. He was a member of B’nai B’rith Emes Lodge #67 and a Hadassah associate. He was a veteran of World War II.
A patron of the arts, he supported the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Muni Opera and had many hours working back stage at the Springfield Theatre Guild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Isadore and Hyman Al Feuer, sisters, Rose Feuer and Belle Feuer Brozgold and Brother-in-law Morris Brozgold.
He is survived by his wife Frances, sisters Annette and Sara Feuer, Nieces and Nephews, and numerous friends.
Visitation will be at Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen, Friday, March 4, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. preceding funeral services. Rabbi Barry Marks and Rabbi Michael Datz will officiate and Mr. Feuer’s Nephew Charles Pell will deliver a eulogy. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Feuer-Brozgold Foundation of Temple Israel, the Feuer-Brozgold Foundation of Springfield Jewish Federation, Prairie Heart Institute at St. John’s Hospital or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
